If you were hoping to see Braid dev Jonathan Blow’s next project, The Witness, launch on console, stop that at once because it’s probably not going to happen.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Edge<\/a>, the somewhat controversially outspoken indie dev blamed the technical limitations of the current generation of consoles, saying he’d much rather be working with whatever’s coming next.<\/p>\n

“We like [Xbox] 360 and PS3, but their specifications are over five years old now, and that’s a lot in computer years,” he explains.”The kind of tricks we’d have to perform to get this game working on those platforms are such a lot of work that to port it over at this point is just not worth it for us.”<\/p>\n

“For this type of game, I do wish the new generation of consoles had come out by now. Even if it only meant a slightly faster graphics processor and a lot more RAM.”<\/p>\n

“Having more memory would make a huge difference to being able to bring a game like [The Witness] to a console. It makes it much easier.”<\/p>\n

[Insert obligatory crap joke about manipulating time and simply magicking that next generation of consoles into existence here.]<\/p>\n

Quite what The Witness actually is remains something of a mystery for the moment. It’s an open world 3D puzzler featuring mazes, AND IT’S NOT COMING TO CONSOLE, and that’s about all we know about it.<\/p>\n
