<\/p>\nBattlefield 3 was out in full force at this year’s rAge expo, with a large stand allowing expo goers the chance to get some hands on with the triple A title.<\/p>\n
The stand drew arguably the largest crowd of any at the event, and was indicative of the game’s wide ranging appeal.<\/p>\n
Everyone from hardcore gamers who were attending this year’s LAN, to the more casual gamer who fires up his PS3 after soccer practice lined up to give the game a go.<\/p>\n

Here’s what the crowd had to say:<\/p>\n
The hardcore gamers<\/strong><\/p>\n “Looks great, I really enjoy the combat system and the physics that come with it like bullet drop. It feels more technical than Modern Warfare 3 and that’s why it will be getting my money,” according to a gamer by the nickname of FireHydra.<\/p>\n Another gamer, Sycot1c, spoke about Battlefield 3 and its biggest competition, Modern Warfare 3. “It looks like a good game, but I’ll need to decide whether I’m going for this or Modern Warfare 3; it depends on what my friends are playing. We’re COD fanboys but the new elite pricing system is really a pain, but then again so is Origin, it’s just a really tough choice.”<\/p>\n The casual gamers<\/strong><\/p>\n “Yeah it looks great, a bit technical but I think I can get into it. I had fun during the few minutes I had to test the game out,” said Morné Kruger, a casual gamer and avid soccer fan.<\/p>\n When one casual gamer was asked whether they’re going to be buying this or Modern Warfare 3, she replied, “Well I haven’t played the other game you mentioned, but I did play the one before this (Bad Company 2) a bit with my boyfriend. It depends what he buys the both of us though I don’t mind this game (Battlefield 3), it really looks stunning.”<\/p>\n “It’s really in depth and I think I’ll buy it when it comes out. I prefer this to the other games I played earlier (Ghost Recon Future Soldier) because it’s not as complicated with the whole diving to cover system, this is just run and gun which I love after a long day at work,” said a guy identifying himself as ‘that guy Brett.’<\/p>\n MyGaming<\/strong><\/p>\n Derrick Cramer<\/span> I also managed a few minutes of Battlefield 3 between interviewing people on the floor, and my first impressions were great.<\/p>\n I was an avid COD franchise fan, though after hearing about the COD Elite pricing I decided it was time for a change, so I was looking forward to getting some BF3 hands on.<\/p>\n The controls were responsive, and it was easy for a Battlefield novice (I’ve only spent about 20 hours on Bad Company 2) to get into the thick of things.<\/p>\n The visuals were superb, enough to distract me from the gameplay every so often and the sound… well the jury is still out on that one thanks to the background expo noise.<\/p>\n Getting used to the game mechanics such as bullet drop was also relatively easy, though pulling off headshots from any sizeable distance is still beyond this noob.<\/p>\n As a Call of Duty fan I was impressed with Battlefield 3.<\/p>\n James Etherington-Smith<\/span><\/p>\n While Derrick was running around rAge, I was getting stuck in to the Battlefield 3 PC beta.<\/p>\n As a big fan of Bad Company 2, I was pleased to find that a lot of the solid gameplay elements have returned; however, Battlefield 3 seems to have its own unique character, both in terms of gameplay and visual style. <\/p>\n The need for teamwork, a cornerstone of the Battlefield franchise, is evident from the moment you hit the ground as a level 1 soldier. While I haven’t even scratched the surface of the reportedly massive progression system, I have managed to get hold of some entertaining gadgets and weapons; a pursuit which keeps you striving for ‘just another quick round’.<\/p>\n I enjoyed the fluid movements of my soldier, and coming to grips with how to navigate the environment and vault over obstacles.<\/p>\n My ageing and decidedly mid-range gaming PC (Core 2 Duo E7400, 4GB DDR2, Radeon 5770) performed admirably on medium settings and the game still looked fantastic.<\/p>\n Of course, things are still in open beta and the bugs will hopefully be quashed by release day – 28 October 2011.<\/p>\n![](\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Battlefield_3_screenshot_bf3___mp___caspian_border___gamescom_08_629067567.jpg\")
