We as gamers tend to pretend that social gaming doesn’t really exist – if we do acknowledge it, it’s in an off-handish “It’s not real gaming” kind of way.<\/p>\n

The fact is that social gaming is pretty massive and popular; and that’s thanks in a huge part to Zynga and its “-ville” series of games available on social networks.<\/p>\n

With over 250 million users<\/a> playing their games monthly, Venturebeat report that Zynga have now decided to look at cutting out the middle-man by launching its own distribution service<\/a> – Zynga Direct.<\/p>\n

That’s right, folks – it may not be long before you’re able to farm vegetables to your heart’s content without having to sift through numerous updates about your friends’ bowel movements. Joy!<\/p>\n

Zynga owe a lot of their success to Facebook, which gave its rather nauseatingly large user-base access to the time-vacuum that is Farmville.<\/p>\n

Now it seems – like the ugly girl who suddenly got hot – Zynga are looking at other opportunities beyond the boyfriend they’ve been attached to for so long.<\/p>\n

When you realise that Facebook takes a reported 30% cut of all purchases of virtual goods bought on their social games, you can understand why Zynga has roaming eyes.<\/p>\n

For now, the Zynga-Facebook relationship is tight (let’s face it, social gaming needs a social network to function – and Facebook is the largest), but with its own online distribution service, don’t be surprised if a new kind of gaming-centric social network pops up soon.<\/p>\n

They can call it ZyngaVille, and make billions.<\/p>\n
