Grand Theft Auto 3 is 10 years old, and to celebrate, Rockstar are bringing the granddaddy of the sandbox to the latest generation of iOS and Android devices.<\/p>\n

If you never had the chance to play Grand Theft Auto 3, then you probably won’t understand what all the fuss is about.<\/p>\n

In their release<\/a>, Rockstar described GTA 3 as “a game that set players loose as a small-time criminal at the bottom of the food chain in Liberty City, a sprawling metropolis where anything can happen – and probably will.”<\/p>\n

For its time, GTA 3 was the most controversial mainstream game floating about; and was probably blamed for 9\/11 at some point.<\/p>\n

It’s not the first time GTA has gone to mobile devices – with the GTA Liberty City and Vice City stories being a couple of the most popular titles on PSP; but really, they were watered down, compared to the full GTA 3 game.<\/p>\n

Rockstar have said the game will be available “later this fall” – which in South African terms is…um, late Spring?<\/p>\n

Our American-Interpretation machine puts that at “end of October, early November”, but it might be broken.<\/p>\n

Perhaps just in time for Christmas if we’ve learnt anything about the machinations of the gaming industry.<\/p>\n
