{"id":14870,"date":"2011-10-20T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-20T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-11-17T15:22:59","modified_gmt":"2011-11-17T13:22:59","slug":"scribblenauts-remix-review-ios","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/reviews\/14870-scribblenauts-remix-review-ios","title":{"rendered":"Scribblenauts Remix Review (iOS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re fortunate enough to be making use of an American iTunes account (as anyone who has any sense would be doing, because <a title=\"SA's iStore is embarrasingly bare\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/28542-itunes-online-store-remains-limited-in-sa.html\" target=\"_blank\">SA&#8217;s iStore is embarrasingly bare<\/a>) then you&#8217;d have probably squealed a bit with glee when Scribblenauts was released onto iOS a week ago.<\/p>\n<p>Scribblenauts is a simple game with a simple premise &#8211; complete the objective for each level and collect the shining star, called &#8220;starite&#8221;, at the end.<\/p>\n<p>How you go about it is entirely up to you.<\/p>\n<p>Yup, how each level plays out is limited only by your imagination (well, that, and the vocabulary of the developers, I guess.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/scribblenauts_screen_03_934114287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"254\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each new level presents a basic task for your character, Maxwell, to complete: these range from &#8220;equip the class for a new school year&#8221; to &#8220;help terraform this alien planet&#8221; &#8211; each instance giving you the opportunity to think outside the box.<\/p>\n<p>By using your handy notepad, you type in a noun (as long as it isn&#8217;t a proper noun, place, or something vulgur) and it should appear on screen.<\/p>\n<p>There weren&#8217;t many instances where what I wanted didn&#8217;t happen &#8211; though sometimes what actually pops up isn&#8217;t what you expect.<\/p>\n<p>In Scribblenauts Remix, like Super Scribblenauts on the DS, adjectives are also recognized &#8211; adding an enitrely new dynamic to the game, with adjective-specific levels popping up every now and then as well.<\/p>\n<p>While some levels require a more specific solution, you can&#8217;t really call the game boring or bland because it&#8217;s all based off of you; if you want to get the starite out of the tree by putting an obvious ladder there &#8211; that&#8217;s your prerogative.<\/p>\n<p>I chose riding on the back of a &#8216;Massive Friendly Pink T-Rex&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>To encourage you to diversify your vocabulary a bit, the game also has close to 50 achievements, such as stringing 8 adjectives onto a word, or discovering the 5 &#8220;bonus&#8221; characters from the past.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/scribblenauts_screen_02_194138741.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"448\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a playground area where you can simply let your imagination run wild &#8211; pitting an &#8216;Angry Orange Cthulu&#8217; against a &#8216;Gigantic Evil Rainbow Unicorn&#8217;, while you watch the battle from above using a &#8216;Jetpack&#8217; &#8211; just as an example.<\/p>\n<p>The only real gripe I have with the game is the somewhat dodgy touch recognition; selecting items and moving them about on our iPad&#8217;s screen wasn&#8217;t as refined as one would expect, and usually requires you to get an entire finger over it to register you&#8217;re picking it up.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit of a pain at first, but you do get used to it as you go along &#8211; but unless your fingers are made from glass or something transparent, you&#8217;ll likely lose sight of smaller objects being moved around.<\/p>\n<p>Not a trainsmash, but a niggle nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/scribblenauts_screen_01_883528756.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a game designed for portability, so it&#8217;s not the longest game ever &#8211; featuring 40 levels from Scribblnauts and Super Scribblenauts &#8211; plus 10 new levels exclusive to Remix.<\/p>\n<p>But because of the very nature of the beast, there is replayability incentive in the form of pushing yourself to be more creative in solving a basic problem.<\/p>\n<p>If you own an iOS device, and have access to the American iTunes store, there is simply no reason you shouldn&#8217;t get this game.
