Two of the world’s most well know Team Fortress 2 shout casters, Lazar ‘Comedian’ Jovic and Eric ‘Salamancer’ Smalley, earlier this month turned their attention to South Africa’s own humble Team Fortress 2 scene, and shout casted the final match of the 16bit TF2 Face Off competition.<\/p>\n
The high profile of these two individuals resulted in the match receiving an unprecedented level of international attention.<\/p>\n
“Neither Call of Duty (COD) not Counter Strike Source (CSS) has ever had the top shoutcasters in the world come and visit our local shores to cover their game. It raises the standard and profile of the local TF2 community to get that kind of attention and input from top international casters and the bigger overseas TF2 communities,” said Matthew Green, editor of Team Fortress 2 Community SA<\/a>.<\/p>\n The home of the local Team Fortress 2 community, tf2.co.za, featured a full interview with the two shoutcasters, which you can go ahead and check out here. <\/a><\/p>\n When asked about their thoughts on the standard of local Team Fortress players, Comedian said that we have “solid deathmatch, but lack in positioning, push timings and overall game sense.”<\/p>\n Salamancer said “I’ve heard from the comments that neither of the teams had played together for very long, and I thought that showed. The tactics and coordination fell a bit short of the highest levels in the US or Europe. That said, the players’ individual skills did look strong. SA could certainly play with the big dogs if the community were built up more and teams could keep their rosters consistent (also a problem in Europe and North America).”<\/p>\n
