Bethesda has published<\/a> the official minimum and recommended system requirements for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.<\/p>\n

As expected, you will need a pretty beefy PC to get the best out of the game, although the recommended GPU is an HD 4890 or GTX 260, neither of which are cutting edge.<\/p>\n

Recommended Specs<\/strong><\/p>\n

•    Windows 7\/Vista\/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
•    Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
•    4GB System RAM
•    6GB free HDD space
•    DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon 4890 or higher).
•    DirectX compatible sound card
•    Internet access for Steam activation<\/p>\n

Minimum Specs<\/strong><\/p>\n

•    Windows 7\/Vista\/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
•    Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
•    2GB System RAM
•    6GB free HDD Space
•    Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM
•    DirectX compatible sound card
•    Internet access for Steam activation<\/p>\n

In reference to the system requirements, Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines tweeted the following:<\/p>\n

“The Min specs get you playing. The recommended specs let you play on High, not on Ultra. You’ll want beefier rig for that.” <\/p>\n

The recommended system specs are pretty much in line with what we expect to see from a modern AAA game, and the minimum specs are unusually modest.<\/p>\n

The previous game in the series, The Elder Scrolls: IV: Oblivion, was hailed at the time for being the most visually impressive game ever released. However, as gorgeous as it was, it was also known for its ridiculously high system requirements.<\/p>\n

Cross platform development has ensured that Skyrim’s system requirements will be a little more in line with what the average gamer has packed away in their gaming rig.<\/p>\n

When Oblivion was released over five years ago it carried the following recommended system requirements, which were at the time considered rather high:<\/p>\n

3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
