Speaking to Eurogamer at the recent Battlefield 3 launch, DICE<\/a> exec, Patrick Bach, weighed in with his views on the next generation of consoles – and DICE’s readiness to tackle whatever they might bring.<\/p>\n

This in on the backdrop of EA<\/a>’s announcement that Battlefield 4 is a definite – and consideringthat  they did a good job with Battlefield 3, it’s not too much of a stretch to having series pregenitor DICE involved with the sequel.<\/p>\n

When speaking about what a next-gen Battlefield would look like on consoles, Bach pointed to the current PC version of Battlefield 3.<\/p>\n

“If anyone would build a new console today, that would be the result – at least. Probably more, because it’s classic PC technology,” he said.<\/p>\n

“We know everything about multi-threading now. We know everything about multi-graphics card solutions now. If someone built a console where the specs are that or more, we have the technology to do something. We could port the game to that console tomorrow.”<\/p>\n

Battlefield 3 is running on DICE’s new Frostbite 2 engine – which was developed to be future-proof for the company – so as long as the next generation of consoles doesn’t do something to flip everything upside down, DICE reckon they will be safe.<\/p>\n

“There’s nothing we know about now that the new consoles would do differently, rather do more.”<\/p>\n

“Since we can handle both [Xbox 360<\/a> and PS3<\/a>] now…we have whatever we might need for the future.”<\/p>\n

Battlefield 4 has been confirmed by EA, but there’s no word on who’s making it (likely DICE), or what platform – present or future – it will be coming on.<\/p>\n
