The new iteration in the Call of Duty<\/a> franchise, Modern Warfare 3, has been smashing sales records as predicted, but it isn\u2019t all celebration at Activision<\/a> as their new online service, Call of Duty Elite<\/a>, has been stumbling since launch.<\/p>\n

With little more than assurances that they\u2019re working on the problems, but without any kind of certain timeframe from developer Beachhead Studios<\/a>, it has finally been announced that the service is expected to be fully functional and stable by the 1st of December.<\/p>\n

Speaking to G4TV, production VP Daniel Suarez is once again appealing for patience.<\/p>\n

“It was our fault that the service wasn’t up and running the day [fans] put in their token or the day they bought it,” he admitted.<\/p>\n

“They kind of have to bear with us while we bring this all back up, but for us it’s literally ‘Give us those couple weeks, we’re giving those to you for free and come December 1st the goal is that we’ll have everything up and running.'”<\/p>\n

Suarez also discussed the nature of the problems which have denied many users access to the service entirely.<\/p>\n

“When we ran our beta, [it] was strictly on the PC<\/a> and a lot of our assumptions were based around [the idea] that a larger majority of users were going to use the PC [interface] since it’s a more robust version of the service than the console app. Some of that may have been incorrectly analysed, because we’re seeing 80 to 90 per cent of our users coming straight from the console app.<\/p>\n

“So the way we’ve had to balance out the way that’s feeding the community is different. Right now we’re retrofitting that so that that works better across the board rather than the way it was set up.”<\/p>\n

This admission is at odds with the previous claim that they had done everything they could to prepare.<\/p>\n

Suarez also explains a statement made earlier this week which implied Call of Duty Elite may not launch on PC at all.<\/p>\n

“It was a mistake,” he explains. “Our goal is to get something on the PC. We haven’t set timing yet, but our goal is to do that.”<\/p>\n

According to Suarez, stamping out cheating is the primary concern with the PC platform.<\/p>\n

“On the PC, that’s an open platform [which is] more prone to cheats and hacks. We’re trying to prevent them as much as possible, but that platform isn’t as secure.<\/p>\n

“As we’re doing competitions and more things specific to stats and generating those stats and creating leaderboards for people, we don’t want to create a situation where the service itself becomes invalidated by people having crazy stats because they’ve been able to do something to the game.”<\/p>\n

As an apology for all the delays, all premium subscribers will have a month\u2019s free access added to their accounts.<\/p>\n
