Today (21 November 2011) Telkom published information that the company will launch 40Mbps broadband services by 2015 and increase the speed of their entry-level services to 2Mbps.<\/p>\n
Telkom further said that they will offer \u201cconsistently more value (speed and caps) for the same price\u201d.<\/p>\n
This confirms speculation that Telkom was trialling 20Mbps and 40Mbps DSL services, where the 40Mbps VDSL connections will support (and be used to trial) video-on-demand services.<\/p>\n
Telkom said that they will focus on offering targeted double & triple play offerings with on-demand media-rich content and converged services.<\/p>\n
As part of their interim results announcement for the period ended 30 September 2011, Telkom also acknowledged that the broadband market is dominated by mobile players largely as a result of their slow time to install and undifferentiated product offerings.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is as a result of network and technology constraints,\u201d Telkom said. \u201cThese issues are being dealt with and we are focusing our efforts on delivering consistent, best in class customer experience and improving current customer satisfaction. We will also simplify and streamline our product offerings and communication.\u201d<\/p>\n
Telkom said that their new product catalogue will be launched in November 2011, and that they are using \u201cnew approaches in how we distribute these products\u201d.<\/p>\n
