If you had asked me a few months ago what 2011’s best scoring game on Metacritic would be at the end of November, I would not have gone with Minecraft.<\/p>\n

Not because it’s not a great game, but because it’s a game that everyone has been playing for ages already and we’ve all agreed that it’s amazing and stuff, so reviews feel almost redundant somehow.<\/p>\n

However, the game was only actually released properly last week, after coming out of a lengthy and ridiculously popular beta period.<\/p>\n

Various MyGaming staff have sunk more hours into the game than we’d like to admit, so you should see our own review up in the next week or two. In the meantime, here is what some major publications have had to say about Minecraft.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Minecraft, with all its flaws and quirks, has already joined Super Mario Brothers, Wolfenstein 3D, and Tetris in the pantheon of games that prototyped an entire genre. Read more <\/a><\/p>\n

Minecraft is a towering achievement in the very possibilities of gaming, and it does this without losing itself to either esoterica or cynicism. It is a game anyone can play and anyone can get something out of, no matter how skilled or imaginative they are.
