In case you\u2019re not tired of this debate yet, Valve<\/a>\u2019s Gabe Newell<\/a> is adding his views to the debacle of the week: piracy!<\/p>\n

During an interview with The Cambridge Student Online, Valve\u2019s big boss said that piracy is about service, not pricing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer – and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store – then the pirate’s service is more valuable,\u201d he told TCS.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost DRM solutions diminish the value of the product by either directly restricting a customer’s use or by creating uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n

While not directly responding to the whole fiasco, Gabe\u2019s comments at least reflect a more grounded attitude towards piracy on the PC platform \u2013 calling it a non-issue for the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to create greater service value than pirates, and this has been successful enough for us that piracy is basically a non-issue for our company\u201d<\/p>\n

So there you have it folks, almost every angle covered \u2013 next week, expect a focus on animal rights, with a PETA<\/a> article coming at you each day*.<\/p>\n
