{"id":27509,"date":"2011-11-27T13:00:51","date_gmt":"2011-11-27T11:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=27509"},"modified":"2011-11-29T17:46:29","modified_gmt":"2011-11-29T15:46:29","slug":"ubisoft-france-botched-first-i-am-alive-build","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/27509-ubisoft-france-botched-first-i-am-alive-build","title":{"rendered":"Ubisoft France botched first I Am Alive build"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I Am Alive was originally billed as a AAA disc-release title from <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/11845-Ubisoft\">Ubisoft<\/a>, but has since fallen from grace to a digital-only<a title=\"Term Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/19908-Xbox-LIVE-%28XBL%29\"> XBLA<\/a> and <a title=\"Term Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/19910-Playstation-Network-%28PSN%29\">PSN<\/a> release. Judging by recent remarks from Ubisoft regarding piracy, we shouldn\u2019t hold our breath for a <a title=\"System Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/21037-PC-Gaming\">PC<\/a> release.<\/p>\n<p>The title has also changed development teams in its incubation, being moved from Ubisoft France to Ubisoft Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to IncGamers, current I Am Alive creative director Stanislas Mettra has revealed that his team took over because the French botched it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first build of the game was done in France and then, sometime later, it was taken to Shanghai,&#8221; said Mettra. &#8220;That was because we knew it wasn\u2019t good enough to release and we had to deeply reconsider some elements that didn\u2019t work well enough.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was after a lot of work had been completed; all of the levels were there already. But it\u2019s really hard to create something believable and emotionally attaching.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mettra says that the feedback garnered from the first trailer release back in 2008 illustrated the need for a reworking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After we released that first trailer and observed the feedback we knew we needed something human-centric, a game that would really make you care about the main character.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were some things that just didn\u2019t work with the initial setting and concept that meant it was hard to believe in the story and the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s certainly been a troubled development, but credit should be given to Ubisoft for maintaining a high standard.
