{"id":28009,"date":"2011-11-30T11:28:23","date_gmt":"2011-11-30T09:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=28009"},"modified":"2011-11-30T12:40:38","modified_gmt":"2011-11-30T10:40:38","slug":"consoles-are-fundamentally-doomed-says-ultima-creator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/28009-consoles-are-fundamentally-doomed-says-ultima-creator","title":{"rendered":"Consoles are &#8220;fundamentally doomed&#8221;, says Ultima creator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ultima creator Richard Garriott de Cayeaux doesn&#8217;t see much of a future for game consoles, and where this sentence would usually go on to say how console gaming is holding back <a title=\"System Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/21037-PC-Gaming\">PC gaming<\/a> and blah blah blah, instead this is where the sentence is taking an M Night Shyamalan-class twist &#8211; Garriott thinks the future is in mobile gaming.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think we might get one more [console] generation,\u00a0<em>might<\/em>, but I think fundamentally they&#8217;re doomed,&#8221; he told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.industrygamers.com\/news\/game-industry-legends-richard-garriott-de-cayeux\/\">IndustryGamers<\/a>. &#8220;I think fundamentally the power that you can carry with you in a portable is really swamping what we&#8217;ve thought of as a console.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He goes on to say that while some games are better suited to console, the mainstream advent of mobile gaming means he&#8217;s &#8220;now more of a gamer&#8221; than ever before. Of course, he <em>would<\/em> say that because he&#8217;s now the boss of social gaming developer Portalarium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI play most of my games now on my iPhone and my <a title=\"System Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/20717-Apple-iPad\">iPad<\/a>.
