GamePro Magazine has been in circulation for 22 years, with a website that\u2019s been running and churning out news, reviews and features for about 13 of those \u2013 sadly though, that\u2019s all over.<\/p>\n
GamePro Magazine has been scrapped, and the entire GP portfolio has been dropped by the Independent Data Group (IDG) of which GamePro is a subsidiary.<\/p>\n
The November issue of GamePro will be its last – and as of 5 December, GamePro.com will no longer function as an independent gaming news website, and will instead be incorporated into PCWorld.<\/p>\n
It seems the decision to kill off the publication boiled down to the realities of the print industry, according to an IndustryGamer report, with IDG head (and executioner), Mike Kisseberth, saying \u201cGamePro, like all businesses, must keep up with industry changes and economic realities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Electronic Gaming Monthly also fell victim to similar reasoning back in 2009, but then experienced a rebirth in 2010, publishing in print, online and on digital formats \u2013 there\u2019s no indication that something along those lines is planned.<\/p>\n
For all intents and purposes \u2013 GamePro as we know it is dead.<\/p>\n
You may be wondering why this is news for us here in South Africa as it\u2019s a US publication \u2013 but GamePro was actually the first gaming magazine I ever picked up from the CNA back in the 90s, so the brand carries some sentimental value, for me at least.<\/p>\n
But when I think about the fact that I haven\u2019t bought a gaming magazine in about 2 years \u2013 then you may get an indication as to why things headed this way for the game publication.<\/p>\n
