They guys over at Click Online had a sneaking suspicion that “Next-Gen” was simply an automatic tag used by the hosts of EA’s extra-net press services for what we consider “current-gen” now – something that EA confirmed when they asked them about it.<\/p>\n

“[The press site in question] categorises PS3 and 360 as Next gen, it just get automatically tagged.”<\/p>\n

The tags have since been corrected, and we can all go back to speculating when we’ll see real next-gen announcements rocking up.<\/p>\n

The rumour mill is hard at work, insisting that EA<\/a> is planning to release games for next-generation consoles next year. The source of the rumour is a list published by EA detailing some of the games that it currently has in development.<\/p>\n

The list includes a bunch of new games for Xbox 360<\/a> and PS3<\/a>, but it also lists games for NXG (next-gen). Games planned for next gen consoles, according to the list, include FIFA Street, Mass Effect 3, FIFA 12 and most interestingly, Battlefield 3.<\/p>\n

Of course, Sony’s PlayStation Vita<\/a> is technically a next generation console, but whether or not this is what NXG is refering to remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

Rumour mongers insist that because recent games like Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12 are being developed for next-gen platforms, we can expect them out next year.<\/p>\n

EA has always referred to Battlefield 3 as a next generation game running on current hardware. Can console gamers expect an experience similar to Battlefield 3 on PC<\/a> with Sony<\/a> and Microsoft’<\/a>s next generation of consoles? Only time will tell.<\/p>\n
