Stuff magazine South Africa has announced their top gadgets of 2011. The eleven winners were selected from 74 shortlisted contenders in 11 categories.<\/p>\n

“This year’s finalists show that the technology world is embracing simplicity and good design without giving up features and power,” said Stuff editor Toby Shapshak.<\/p>\n

The Gadget of the Year<\/strong> is the Asus<\/a> Eee Pad Transformer<\/strong>, which Stuff said took on the iPad and surpassed their judges\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n

The Gaming Gadget of the Year<\/strong> is the Nintendo 3DS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Samsung<\/a> Galaxy S2<\/strong> is the Phone of the Year<\/strong> emerging ahead of the Android phone pack.<\/p>\n

The judges said that the Galaxy S2 \u201cbrought the greatest arsenal of hardware weaponry ever seen on the smartphone battlefield.\u201d<\/p>\n

Runners up in the Phone of the Year category were the HTC<\/a> Sensation, BlackBerry<\/a> Bold 9900, LG<\/a> Optimus 3D, Sony Ericsson<\/a> Xperia Arc S, Google<\/a> Nexus S and Nokia<\/a> E6.<\/p>\n

The Tablet of the Year<\/strong> is Apple\u2019s<\/a> iPad 2<\/strong> which judges described as \u201cthe most complete tablet on the market.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apple’s MacBook Air<\/strong> clinched Computer of the Year<\/strong>. Commenting on their choice, the judges said \u201cit melds the intuitiveness of a tablet with the power of a grown up laptop.\u201d<\/p>\n

The TV of the Year<\/strong> is the Samsung UA55D8000<\/strong>. Other close contenders in this category were the Panasonic<\/a> TX\u2013P4GT30, Phillips 50PFL7956T, LG47LW650T and Sony<\/a> KDL\u201346HX923.<\/p>\n
