Is there another Battlefield game in development? That probably goes without saying, but it looks like DICE might be going back to the future for its next round of pew-pew-pew, and finally doing a sequel to 2006’s Battlefield 2142.<\/p>\n

The rumour comes via the recently-launched Battlefield 3 expansion, Back to Karkand, where sharp-eyed gamers spotted a wall on the map Wake Island tagged with the text “2143”. The writing<\/em>, as they say, is on the wall<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As BF3Blog points out, DICE has previously included small teasers for upcoming games in current titles. Back in June 2006, for example, a vehicle in the Battlefield 2: Armoured Fury map pack sported a licence plate reading “2142” – ahead of the game’s official reveal at E3 later that year. That looks like a pretty good precedent.<\/p>\n

Considering EA’s ongoing mission to go head-to-head with the Call of Duty brand, it seems quite likely that another Battlefield title would be due out next year. Could gigantic mechs with gatling lasers make the difference?<\/p>\n
