{"id":30167,"date":"2012-01-05T12:08:34","date_gmt":"2012-01-05T10:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=30167"},"modified":"2012-01-05T12:10:02","modified_gmt":"2012-01-05T10:10:02","slug":"epic-not-supporting-the-current-version-of-sopa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/30167-epic-not-supporting-the-current-version-of-sopa","title":{"rendered":"Epic not supporting the &#8220;current version&#8221; of SOPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/12081-Epic-Games\">Epic<\/a> has joined <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/11851-Electronic-Arts\">EA<\/a>,<a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/11859-Sony-Computer-Entertainment\"> Sony<\/a>, <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/11857-Nintendo\">Nintendo<\/a>, <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/19988-Google\">Google<\/a>, and a bunch of other companies in opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act, a predictably controversial bill that would authorise the US Department of Justice to prosecute websites for facilitating or enabling copyright infringement in America and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Epic Games supports efforts that would stop overseas websites profiting from pirating our games, but we have to do that in a way that&#8217;s compatible with freedom of speech and due process of law,&#8221; declared Dana Cowley, Epic&#8217;s PR person.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thus, we do not support the current version of SOPA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Which is not to say they wouldn&#8217;t support some future version of SOPA, of course, but let&#8217;s live in the moment.<\/p>\n<p>Hilariously, a recent report from <a href=\"http:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/while-drafting-sopa-us-house-harbors-bittorrent-pirates-111226\/\">TorrentFreak<\/a> linked more than 800 IPs from the US House of Representatives (where the bill is being drafted) to content on BitTorrent, including illegal downloads of movies, porn, and a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
