Not to be confused with 2K<\/a> Marin\u2019s already announced XCOM reboot which will be a shooter, one of the world\u2019s most revered strategy developers, Firaxis, has confirmed that it is currently working on a turn-based strategy reboot of the iconic XCOM franchise.<\/p>\n

The announcement will appease fans of the original who were disappointed at the revelation that 2K Marin\u2019s reboot will be a shooter, and according to the developer, XCOM: Enemy Unknown will strive to remain true to the original.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We\u2019re huge fans of the original game and it\u2019s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM,” said Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games to Game Informer.<\/p>\n

“We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise.”<\/p>\n

Little else is know about the game, which has been revealed exclusively via Game Informer Magazine. The February issue of the magazine will reveal more details, but teasers so far include destructible tactical environments and an adjustable strategic camera view.<\/p>\n

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released on PC<\/a>, PS3<\/a> and Xbox 360<\/a> and is expected to drop towards the end of 2012. More details, including video interviews should start appearing online from 10 January onwards, so watch this space.<\/p>\n
