Ahead of its launch in America and Europe next month, Sony<\/a> is apparently throwing heaps of cash at their PS Vita<\/a> marketing department in preparation for the company’s “biggest ever” promo campaign.<\/p>\n

“The PS Vita launch will be supported by the biggest campaign we’ve ever executed, and this level of activity will continue throughout 2012, reflecting our confidence in, and commitment to the platform long term,” Sony’s UK marketing manager Mark Bowles told MCV.<\/p>\n

“Our campaign will target gamers primarily, but also the new generation of tech enthusiasts and entertainment consumers who are used to playing games on their smartphones or tablets.<\/p>\n

“In terms of media focus, due to the connected nature of the Vita and the behaviour of our target audience, our campaign will have a strong digital backbone, supporting a heavyweight TV, press, outdoor and retail presence.”<\/p>\n

The handheld was released in Japan in the middle of December last year, and in Hong Kong and Taiwan the next week, and went on to sell half a million units over the Christmas shopping apocalypse.<\/p>\n

It’s expected to hit shops locally on 22 February, alongside the European and Stateside launches, although no official pricing has been confirmed yet.<\/p>\n
