Amanita Design, the guys behind the eye-gasmic Machinarium, are known for their uniquely styled games that seem less like games and more like a series of increasingly beautiful pieces of art.<\/p>\n

Of course, making games is what they do, and after the massive success of their robotic point-and-click adventure, Machinarium – which revived my love for the genre completely – it’s about time they did it again.<\/p>\n

Cue: Botanicula – Jarom\u00edr Plach\u00fd and Amanita Design’s next point-and-clicker that centres around 5 tree creatures who are on a mission to save their home’s last seed from evil parasites.<\/p>\n

The game is set to follow the same design principals Amanita has become known for – something Rock Paper Shotgun calls “organic exploration” – which is to say the world you’re exploring is alive.<\/p>\n

The point-and-click style, much like Machinarium, opens each screen up to hidden triggers, which your quintet reacts to in their own unique ways. The puzzles you’ll encounter can only be solved by one of the 5 critters you direct – and it’s up to you to determine which one is best suited for each job.<\/p>\n

Botanicula looks like natural progression for Amanita Design, with a world that looks fluid and interactive – contrasting the mostly static Machinarium – while sharing, if not surpassing the level of polish seen in it.<\/p>\n

And the powers-that-be, agree: Botanicula is an IGF 2012 finalist for, who would have guessed, Excellence In Audio and in Visual Art.<\/p>\n

The game is set for a February\/March release, and you can bet your blue-goose caboose that MyGaming will get in on the indie love.<\/p>\n
