At this year\u2019s Consumer Electronics Show, gaming was far from neglected. With manufacturers displaying a mix of the “same old, same old” as well as the new and exciting, CES 2012 was a great event for gaming.<\/p>\n

Here are some of the stand-out items that featured at the show:<\/p>\n

Razer Project Fiona<\/h3>\n

Undoubtedly the stand-out gaming device of CES, Project Fiona is stupidly ambitious, and that\u2019s why the gaming world should pay attention. A gaming tablet, running Windows 8, with built in controls that can play full-fledged PC titles such as Firefall and Assassins Creed.<\/p>\n

All of this for around R8,000. It sounds like a winner to me.<\/p>\n

Razer Project Fiona<\/p><\/div>\n

Turtle Beach XP400<\/h3>\n

Turtle Beach was at CES in full force, showing off the XP400 headset. Coming in at around $220 (R1,796.56), the headset features full Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, and makes use of a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into your Xbox controller for wireless tethering.<\/p>\n

As for interfacing with the console, a control box with digital in and out, as well as analogue in, provides connectivity for consoles and PCs. The control box wirelessly connects to the headset via dual band Wi-Fi, which Turtle Beach claims eliminates nearly all wireless interference.<\/p>\n

Ion Audio iCade mobile<\/h3>\n

The iCade from Ion Audio attempts to transform your iPhone into a full mobile gaming platform.<\/p>\n

A D-pad, a four button keypad and shoulder buttons are reminiscent of an old school game controller, the only difference is that this one has a smartphone in the centre.<\/p>\n

The iCade is compatible with around 100 iPhone games, and should retail for $80 (R653.29).<\/p>\n

Wikipad Tablet<\/h3>\n

The Wikipad tablet is a feature rich, 8-inch tablet with one main draw point – it ships with a detachable game controller for gaming on the go.<\/p>\n

Specifications are on the impressive side; the device sports a 1080p screen, 8GB of built-in memory, front and rear cameras, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and a 6 hour battery life.<\/p>\n

The tablet also ships with a handful of educational games (yay for education!).<\/p>\n

Sensics virtual reality helmet<\/h3>\n

While this isn\u2019t a gaming specific device that you or I can go buy, it is interesting and could be the future of gaming.<\/p>\n

Just like all the other \u201cfuture of gaming\u201d devices that disappeared into obscurity.<\/p>\n

These SmartGoggles feature cameras that analyse the real world, and present you with a mixture of virtual and real images to make the experience more immersive. Imagine controlling an in game character with hand gestures, while viewing an augmented reality display of the game.<\/p>\n

Not convinced? Me neither, but you have to admit it looks pretty cool in a geeky sort of way.<\/p>\n

Razer Naga Hex<\/h3>\n

The original Razer Naga was idiotic. There, I said it.<\/p>\n

The Naga Hex unveiled at CES on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish.<\/p>\n

A high-end gaming mouse aimed squarely at RPG\/MOBA players, the Naga Hex features 6 thumb-side buttons for easy control.<\/p>\n

A 5,600dpi laser sensor with 1,000MHz polling rate, and the ability to register up to 250 clicks per minute rounds off the package. The paint job is pretty cool too.<\/p>\n
