{"id":31303,"date":"2012-01-24T11:16:02","date_gmt":"2012-01-24T09:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=31303"},"modified":"2012-01-24T12:09:01","modified_gmt":"2012-01-24T10:09:01","slug":"megaupload-founder-among-top-modern-warfare-3-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/31303-megaupload-founder-among-top-modern-warfare-3-players","title":{"rendered":"Megaupload founder among top Modern Warfare 3 players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you\u2019ve been hiding under a rock for the past few days, or just ignoring the news, the US government shut down software sharing website <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/398275-Megaupload\" target=\"_blank\">Megaupload<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bloomberg, police had to cut Megaupload founder Kim Schmitz (aka Kim Dotcom) out of a safe room when they raided his mansion in Auckland, New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>When they eventually got through the thick walls of the safe-room they found Schmitz hiding in the room with what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun.<\/p>\n<p>The website is accused of earning US$175 million in &#8220;illegal profits&#8221; as a result of enabling the sharing of copyright protected content.<\/p>\n<p>The site&#8217;s two founders (Schmitz and Mathias Ortman) are being charged with violating piracy laws, although Schmitz is the only one to have been apprehended so far.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, Schmitz is one of the best Modern Warfare 3 players in the world.
