Chris Avellone has Kickstarter fever, and the only cure is more cowbell AND<\/em> your input. In a post over on Obsidian’s forums, Avellone has asked fans what game they’d like to see happen if, hypothetically<\/em>, the studio were, hypothetically<\/em>, to develop something using Kickstarter.<\/p>\n

Last week, Tim Schafer and Double Fine turned the gaming industry upside-down and inside-out, after raising over $1.2 million from the public for their next project in just 24 hours. Today, the amount pledged is just under $1.7 million – and more than four times the amount Double Fine needed to fund the project.<\/p>\n

Now Avellone, who previously worked on super-culty RPG Planescape: Torment, is getting big ideas of his own.<\/p>\n

“All of Double Fine\u2019s success from Kickstarter has been inspiring,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

I GUESS PEOPLE LOVE THOSE CLASSIC ADVENTURE GAMES AFTER ALL.<\/p>\n

“The idea of player-supported funding is… well, it\u2019s proof certain genres aren\u2019t dead and sequels may have more legs than they seem. And the idea of not having to argue that with a publisher is appealing.<\/p>\n

“Out of curiosity, if Obsidian did Kickstart a project, what would you want to see funded? (You can respond in comments or to @ChrisAvellone on Twitter, whichever you prefer.)”<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, Planescape: Torment 2 features prominently in the responses, with one person taking the concept even further with “Planescape: Torment in space, please.”<\/p>\n
