{"id":32768,"date":"2012-02-22T11:12:43","date_gmt":"2012-02-22T09:12:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=32768"},"modified":"2012-02-22T11:15:07","modified_gmt":"2012-02-22T09:15:07","slug":"rumour-control-sony-is-developing-a-3d-camera-peripheral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/32768-rumour-control-sony-is-developing-a-3d-camera-peripheral","title":{"rendered":"Rumour control: Sony is developing a 3D camera peripheral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today&#8217;s round of <em>No Way, Lol!<\/em>, Sony has apparently filed a patent for something that looks and sounds very much like Kinect.<\/p>\n<p>Which looked and sounded a lot like the original PlayStation 2 EyeToy.<\/p>\n<p>Which admittedly looked and sounded rather like the Dreamcast&#8217;s Dreameye.<\/p>\n<p>Which was really just a posh webcam, but let&#8217;s stop there.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report over on Kotaku, the patent is for a &#8220;USER-DRIVEN THREE-DIMENSIONAL INTERACTIVE GAMING ENVIRONMENT&#8221;, which must be important because it&#8217;s all in capital letters.<\/p>\n<p>The accompanying artwork clearly shows some kind of camera peripheral, as well as its tracking space.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most significantly though, the patent was filed by Richard Marks, the brain behind the PlayStation Move.<\/p>\n<p>As Kotaku&#8217;s Luke Plunkett points out, this doesn&#8217;t mean Sony is <em>actually<\/em> working on this thing, but that it&#8217;s at least something they&#8217;re having a big think about.
