As we reported some time ago, a State Rep William Fourkiller had proposed a bill in the US suggesting a \u201cviolent video game tax\u201d for any game rated Teen or above (which amusingly would include Just Dance 2).\u00a0 The money from this tax would go to fighting childhood obesity and bullying.<\/p>\n
The bill was later tweaked to focus on creating a \u201ctask force\u201d to look into the relationship between violent games and those issues.<\/p>\n
Thankfully there are some US politicians with some sense, and the bill has been thrown out, voted down by a margin of 5-6.<\/p>\n
The minutes from the meeting show Representative Pat Owenby asking, “Why just video games? Why not French fries or rap music or movies?”<\/p>\n
Fourkiller responded, “We have to start somewhere. There’s no magic bullet that will solve these issues, but I want to raise awareness of these two issues.”<\/p>\n
Representative Mike Reynolds disagreed, saying, “It’s not a good idea. We could have a task force on a multitude of reasons children are obese.”<\/p>\n
