Gamers attending The Gathering LAN event in Norway will have access to a 200Gbit\/s internet connection, the result of an ego-war between Norway and Sweden.<\/p>\n
The Gathering previously held the record for fastest Internet connection, an impressive 110 Gbit\/s speed pipe installed at last year\u2019s event. However, later in the year Swedish rival Dreamhack one-upped the Nords with a 120 Gbit\/s pipe.<\/p>\n
You can\u2019t keep those Nords down though. \u201cJust like cross-country skier Northug answers the Swedes before the finish line, The Gathering and Altibox answers the Swedish record with a new world record, \u201d according to a write up on The Gathering’s website.<\/p>\n
Getting off cross-country skiers for a second to talk about speeds, The Gathering claim the connection is capable of downloading 5,120 5Mb songs from iTunes every second.<\/p>\n
Norway\u2019s previously unknown scorn of Thailand also came through, when they noted that The Gathering connection is faster than the 158 Gbit\/s of total bandwidth available to Thailand\u2019s population of 60 million.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not yet clear whether The Gathering will install a \u201cDownload the whole internets\u201d button at the event, but with that amount of bandwidth it might not be such a bad idea.<\/p>\n
