Innovative FPS puzzle-game Portal 2 was the big success at the 2012 BAFTA awards, taking home the coveted Best Game award.<\/p>\n

Valve also has to make space in their trophy case for Best Design and Best Story, which were also awarded to Portal 2.<\/p>\n

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 went home empty-handed, getting pipped by Battlefield 3 in the Audio and Online Multiplayer awards. DICE was further chuffed when Battlefield also scooped the public-voted GAME award of 2011.<\/p>\n

Both FPS giants were undone by the Dark Knight in Best Action game, where Batman: Arkham City took the honours.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, Modern Warfare 3 but not Battlefield 3 was nominated in this category.<\/p>\n

Some may be surprised to see that neither of the two FPS juggernauts even cracked a nomination for Game of the Year, getting edged out by the likes of FIFA 2012, L.A. Noire and Skyrim.<\/p>\n

Also of note is that critically acclaimed RPG Skyrim didn’t win a single award.<\/p>\n

Markus Persson was given the Special Award for his innovative work on international phenomenon Minecraft.<\/p>\n
