Not that anybody had to be persuaded that Minecraft<\/a> is a big thing, but Mojang<\/a> has confirmed that the game has now banked over $80 million in revenue. Big? It’s even bigger<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The blockbuster game has now been downloaded over 25 million times on PC<\/a>, with five million of those turning into a full purchase – now tagged at \u20ac20 a pop. The game is also available on iOS<\/a> and Android<\/a> (minus a few features), and will be going out on the Xbox LIVE<\/a> Arcade in May (plus a few features).<\/p>\n

There’s also Minecraft Lego in the works, and heaps of official merchandise, including T-shirts and socks, accounting for over $1 million in profits. It’s more than a game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been approached by a number of high-profile Hollywood producers and asked to do TV shows,\u201d Mojang chief exec Carl Manneh told the Financial Times. \u201cWe may do that. It\u2019s hard when you don\u2019t have any experience and someone comes to throw these ideas around. We have so much to focus on with just the game development and growing the business. But if the right idea comes along and the right people that we\u2019d want to work with, we\u2019d say why not?\u201d<\/p>\n

I’ve got a great idea – Jon Hamm, in hot pants, moving blocks around. Sure, maybe it’s a loose adaptation, but I’d watch it.<\/p>\n
