{"id":35222,"date":"2012-04-01T13:00:55","date_gmt":"2012-04-01T11:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=35222"},"modified":"2012-04-03T15:42:59","modified_gmt":"2012-04-03T13:42:59","slug":"valve-on-the-hunt-for-linux-devs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/35222-valve-on-the-hunt-for-linux-devs","title":{"rendered":"Valve on the hunt for Linux devs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re one of the seven people in the world using Linux as your only operating system, <a title=\"Gabe Newell\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/20189-Gabe-Newell\">Gabe Newell<\/a> has some good news for.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like <a title=\"Valve\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/11901-Valve\">Valve<\/a> is trying to show a little love for the OS not typically associated with gaming, by reaching out for a <a title=\"Linux\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/21507-Linux\">Linux<\/a> specialist to help port <a title=\"Windows\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/23889-Windows\">Windows<\/a> games. This started with a job ad back in January, but now Mr Newell himself has been in touch with <a title=\"Michael Larabel\" href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/23890-Michael-Larabel\">Michael Larabel<\/a> of Phoronix.com, to whom he sent this e-mail:<\/p>\n<p><em>We are running into a bunch of performance issues in Linux drivers (e.g. 50 millisecond draw calls because the driver is compiling a shader). <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019d like to hire someone to work on these performance issues.
