BitTorrent index websites TorLock and TorrentFunk have revealed the most popular torrent downloads among South Africans from their websites.<\/p>\n

Sites such as TorrentFreak regularly publish lists of the top 10 movies download using BitTorrent, while torrent trackers and indices often maintain lists of the most popular torrents on their services.<\/p>\n

However, there is still precious little data available about the torrenting habits of South Africans.<\/p>\n

TorLock<\/a> said that 44,502 of the unique visitors to their site were South Africans, according to Google Analytics, while TorrentFunk<\/a> reported 57,050 visitors from SA.<\/p>\n

Both sites offer a searchable database of \u201ctorrent\u201d files, which are required by BitTorrent client applications to download content from peers.<\/p>\n

These torrent files are uploaded by the site\u2019s users, with TorrentFunk boasting over 500,000 torrents and an automated verification system based on download frequency, file size, and \u201cother relevant factors.\u201d<\/p>\n

TorLock claims to list only verified torrents, offering a $1 reward for every \u201cfake\u201d spotted. On 3 April 2012, the TorLock front page stated that it hosts 598,306 verified torrents.<\/p>\n

The below table shows the 15 most popular torrents among South Africans as per the two sites:<\/p>\n
