I like used games, you like used games, Crytek’s<\/a> director of creative development Rasmus H\u00f8jengaard<\/a> doesn’t like used games and he doesn’t want you to like them either. In fact, he wants used games to not even be a thing anymore.<\/p>\n

Asked about rumours that the next-gen Xbox and PS3 would block used game discs, H\u00f8jengaard told CVG that “From a business perspective that would be absolutely awesome. It’s weird that [second-hand] is still allowed because it doesn’t work like that in any other software industries, so it would be great if they could somehow fix that issue as well.”<\/p>\n

That’s right, people, used game sales are an issue<\/em> that needs to be fixed<\/em>. And here I thought I just liked buying cheap games. Of course, people buying – or not<\/em> buying – games is the whole point – Crysis 2 was the most pirated game on the internet last year.<\/p>\n

“It’s very flattering and upsetting at the same time,” H\u00f8jengaard said. “Obviously you miss so much revenue, it’s so clear that a lot of people want to play your game but they don’t really want to pay for it, which is unfortunately really disappointing.<\/p>\n

“It’s also a little flattering because people are willing to bother download these 10GB files or whatever the game takes because they think it looks great. We obviously want to avoid that this time, but even if we can convert 25 percent of those gamers into paying customers [you have an extra million sales].”<\/p>\n

They’re not going to do that by saying how “absolutely awesome” it would be to kill the used game market, I’ll bet.<\/p>\n
