Resident Evil 6 is a few short months away, and the fact of the matter is, Capcom<\/a> haven’t really told us much about the upcoming zombie-fest.<\/p>\n

It’s surprising, given that the game has had numerous leaks even prior to its official announcement; but just to put everything into perspective alongside the chaos of the trailers and screenshots, let’s get a rundown of what we actually know about Resident Evil 6.<\/p>\n

The most exciting prospect of Resident Evil 6 is that not one, but two of the primary protagonists from the series are returning in one go. Series favourite Leon Kennedy and RE5 hero Chris Redfield will both endure the horrors and nightmares that await in the game.<\/p>\n

Akin to Resident Evil 5, the next installment will not see our heroes going in alone, but with partners. Leon will have Special Agent Helena Harper by his side, while Redfield gets a character known as Peirs Nivens to back him up.<\/p>\n

Also thrown into the mix is another new protagonist. Jake Muller, who may be better known as Albert Wesker Jr. – that’s right, Wesker (that bullet-dodging and never-dying boss from previous games) had a son… somehow. Jake will also have a partner in crime – Sherry Berkin.<\/p>\n

The element of having partners conjures the same word into everyone’s mind – ‘co-op’. Co-operative play has not been confirmed by Capcom, and it possibly could never be; but given that Resident Evil 5 thrived off the co-op experience, it would be a natural addition to feature it in RE6.<\/p>\n

Whether co-op will happen or not, the game is broken down into three separate campaigns (which will obviously crossover one another at some point), as each character gets their own unique story and missions throughout the game.<\/p>\n

Leon’s own nightmare kicks off as he is forced to kill the US President at Tall Oaks University Campus, which then turns into a ground-zero bio-terror attack zone. Redfield’s not-so-enjoyable adventure takes place in the fictional city of Lanshiang, where another outbreak has happened, one that will require Chris’ special skills.<\/p>\n

Jake Muller’s campaign, which will be more melee-based, will take place in Eastern Europe and focus on Muller’s blood, which is key to finding a cure for the game’s C-Virus outbreak.<\/p>\n

Classic Resident Evil zombies will be back as well as new ones featured in 4 and 5. Some of the new enemies can use firearms and even regrow random mutated limbs if you shoot off their body parts.<\/p>\n

In order to deal with the evolving threats the game has to offer, players can move and shoot, which will be a first for a primary RE release. These elements, along with a new cover mechanic, will be pivotal throughout the campaign, most notably that of Redfield’s, which takes an action-shooter approach.<\/p>\n

What we don’t know yet is who the real villain behind it all is, and how the protagonists’ paths are going to cross; but we’re expecting to see a lot more when E3 swings around again in June this year.<\/p>\n
