EA has come up with a new plan to get you onto Origin, which doesn\u2019t involve forcing it down your throat.<\/p>\n
The publishing giant is getting behind the recent Kickstarter frenzy, offering a deal for all Kickstarter-funded games \u2013 no distribution fees to put your game up on Origin.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s actually a pretty sweet deal, particularly for an indie developer, and is open to any fully-funded, complete, and ready to launch title; the offer will run for 90 days after launch.<\/p>\n
“The public support for crowd-funding creative game ideas coming from small developers today is nothing short of phenomenal,” said Origin VP David DeMartini.<\/p>\n
“It’s also incredibly healthy for the gaming industry. Gamers around the world deserve a chance to play every great new game, and by waiving distribution fees on Origin we can help make that a reality for successfully crowd-funded developers.”<\/p>\n
One of Kickstarter\u2019s biggest success stories, Brian Fargo of Wasteland 2, also responded to the announcement.<\/p>\n
“I have had a long relationship with EA and it is great to see them recognise and support the crowd-funded games model,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Having Origin waive their distribution fees for 90 days for fan funded games is a major economic bonus for small developers. We look forward to bringing Wasteland 2 to the Origin audience.”<\/p>\n
This kind of offer may get a little more support behind the Origin service, which hasn\u2019t been a favourite amongst gamers due to EA\u2019s decision to pull their games from Steam and make their big-name titles require Origin to play. This method of attracting users to Origin seems a step in the right direction to getting more of the community on their side.<\/p>\n
