Just when you thought the Diablo III<\/a> drama llamas had been rounded up and sent to the glue factory, they got out again. Reports are now coming in from all over claiming account hacks, with gold and gear allegedly removed from player inventories.<\/p>\n

According to Eurogamer, one of their own staffers – Christian Donlan – had his account commandeered by some nefarious person known only as “Anna”. This apparently coincided with the server downtime on Sunday afternoon, with some subsequent speculation that Battle.net had been compromised with a SQL injection attack.<\/p>\n

Whether or not this is actually what happened remains unconfirmed, although Blizzard<\/a> has issued an official statement on the matter, pointing out that big game launches “will result in an increase in reports of individual account compromises, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing now with Diablo III.”<\/p>\n

So, basically, use protection. Just like mom always told you.<\/p>\n

“We also wanted to reassure you that the Battle.net Authenticator and Battle.net Mobile Authenticator (a free app for iPhone and Android devices) continue to be some of the most effective measures we offer to help players protect themselves against account compromises, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of them.”<\/p>\n
