Just when you thought there was nothing good left in this world, Epic Games<\/a> has hired up a bunch of unemployed former Big Huge Games<\/a> staffers following the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning studio’s sudden and dramatic closure last week amid financial crisis.<\/p>\n

“On Wednesday, the ex-BHG leadership team contacted us. They wanted to start a new company and keep together some of the key talent displaced by the layoff, and hoped that they could use an Epic IP as a starting point for a new game.\u00a0 We loved that they all wanted to keep working together, but it was pretty clear they\u2019d have trouble building a demo and securing funding before their personal savings ran out,” writes Epic president Mike Capps<\/a> on the company’s website.<\/p>\n

“In one of life\u2019s coincidences, Epic\u2019s directors had spent the morning discussing how we\u2019d love to build even more successful projects with our growing team, but that we\u2019d need a dramatic infusion of top talent to do so. Which, we all knew, was impossible.<\/p>\n

“So now we\u2019re planning to start an impossible studio in Baltimore.”<\/p>\n

Noting that there’s still a whole lot to get done – including the acquisition of adequate quantities of Nerf weaponry and Dr Pepper – Capps adds that they’re hoping to set these guys up “as soon as we can”.<\/p>\n
