Take-Two has announced that Bioshock will be released in the USA on November 3 and to “international territories” a few days earlier on October 30.<\/p>\n
The Cult of Rapture<\/a>, Bioshock 2’s official launch center has confirmed that Bioshock 2 will be launched on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously.<\/p>\n While the international gaming community is rejoicing at the news, many observant commentators have been quick to point out that Bioshock 2 will be released exactly one week before Modern Warfare 2, which is arguably the most anticipated game of the year.<\/p>\n When will developers and publishers learn that the games industry is essentially evergreen, and that they should stop targeting Christmas as the de-facto big-name release period?<\/p>\n This point was proven when the great flood of late 2008 big-name releases lead to most games selling below expectations.<\/p>\n Releasing massively anticipated titles within a narrow timeframe is essentially cannibalizing the video games video games market, as most gamers are not willing to spend R1 400 on games in one month, even if it is the Christmas season.<\/p>\n This means that the majority of gamers on a budget, which is most gamers, will most likely end up having to choose between Modern Warfare 2 and Bioshock 2. We feel sorry for any other publishers that are planning on releasing anything around this time, as between these two giants there really is little room to maneuver.<\/p>\n Grand Theft Auto IV was released in April 2008 and went on to gross $500,000 in its first week. Granted it is a massive franchise, but the fact that it was released in a relatively quiet period ensured that it reached its release potential as it did not have to compete with any other big name games for monthly market share.<\/p>\n
