If you were hoping to see a PS Vita price drop before the end of the world, keep on hoping – Sony has confirmed that the handheld won’t be getting cheaper any time this year.<\/p>\n
Asked if it’s too soon for a price drop this year, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer that, “Oh, absolutely. From the value for money standpoint, we think we have a good price for what the system is. And our priority is to achieve the potential through more games and services.”<\/p>\n
The PS Vita starts at R2,999 locally for the most basic Wi-Fi version, going up to R3,499 for the 3G model. Worldwide sales of the mini-console were at 1.8 million at the end of March, with another 10 million sales expected by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
“Of course people who are looking to buy are also talking about the price of PS Vita, especially when they have to buy a memory card as well,” added Yoshida.<\/p>\n
“That’s something we have to spend time to cost reduce and address in the future. But now, our laser focus is to increase the content and to realise the potential of the system.”<\/p>\n
Your next best bet then is to hope the Mayans had it all wrong, and there will be a 2013. It’s probably a pretty safe bet too, so that works out.<\/p>\n
