News of the PSP Go initially surfaced a few weeks ago. Sony however only officially acknowledged the console last week.<\/p>\n
Yesterday at E3 Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai announced that the PSP Go will sell for $249 (R1990) and will become available in the USA and Europe, and therefore SA, on October 1 2009.<\/p>\n
The price tag puts the PSP Go at around $80 more than the current PSP.<\/p>\n
The specifications for the PSP Go are: no physical UMD drive, a 3.8” screen, 16GB flash memory, 43% lighter than PSP-300, expandable storage capacity using Memory Stick Micro, Bluetooth support and full PSN support including game and TV\/movie rental.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the most interesting feature of the PSP Go is that it will not feature the UMD storage units that people have associated with the PSP until now. Instead users will be able to download PSP games.<\/p>\n
This means that current PSP game collections will be completely incompatible with the PSP Go.<\/p>\n
According to Sony, the PSP Go is not meant to replace the PSP 3000, but is rather meant to serve a different market segment.<\/p>\n
Sony will continue to sell the PSP 3000 as well as games in UMD format, thus indicating a gradual move towards the digital distribution model rather than a sudden switch.<\/p>\n
