{"id":39581,"date":"2012-06-12T00:37:31","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T22:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=39581"},"modified":"2012-06-12T00:44:25","modified_gmt":"2012-06-11T22:44:25","slug":"new-macbook-pro-and-macbook-air-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/39581-new-macbook-pro-and-macbook-air-revealed","title":{"rendered":"New MacBook Pro and MacBook Air revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple launched its \u201cnext generation MacBook Pro\u201d today (11 June 2012) at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) event in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>The company also announced a new set of internals for its current MacBook Air and MacBook Pro line of products that would go on sale in the US today.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming rumours that a hardware refresh would see Apple adopting the new Intel Ivy Birdge processors, the MacBook Air will have up to a 2GHz Intel Core i7 and support up to 8GB of 1600MHz memory, as well as a 512GB SSD.<\/p>\n<p>The devices will include two USB 3.0 ports and a 720p FaceTime HD camera.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"mba\">MacBook Air<\/h3>\n<p>An 11-inch MacBook Air will still cost $999, include a 1.7GHz dual-core i5, 64GB SSD, and run at a resolution of 1366&#215;768. The price goes up to $1099 if you want a 128GB SSD.<\/p>\n<p>A 13-inch MacBook Air will cost $1,199 and ship with a 128GB SSD, 1.8GHz dual-core i5, and 1440&#215;900 display. Increasing the drive space to 256GB ups the price to $1,499.<\/p>\n<p>Both the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air have 4GB RAM by default.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52349\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?attachment_id=52349\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52349\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52349\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52349\" title=\"Macbook Air\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Macbook-Air.jpg\" alt=\"Macbook Air\" width=\"600\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-52349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Macbook Air<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 id=\"mbp\">MacBook Pro<\/h3>\n<p>The default configuration of the 13-inch MacBook Pro still has a lower resolution than the Air (1280&#215;800), but has a 2.5GHz dual-core i5, 4GB RAM and a 500GB mechanical drive. It will go for $1,199.<\/p>\n<p>For $1,499, the 13-inch MacBook Pro sports a 2.9GHz dual-core i7, 8GB RAM, and a 750GB mechanical hard drive.<\/p>\n<p>Both 13-inch MacBook Pro models will use Intel\u2019s integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU.<\/p>\n<p>The 15-inch MacBook Pro will have a 1440&#215;900 display powered by a Nvidia GeForce GT 650M GPU. For $1,799 you get 4GB RAM, 512MB graphics memory, a 2.3GHz quad-core i7 and a 500GB hard drive.<\/p>\n<p>A higher-end model of the 15-inch MacBook Pro is also available for $2,199 with a 2.6GHz quad-core i7, 8GB RAM, 1GB graphics memory, and a 750GB hard drive.<\/p>\n<p>No mention was made of a 17-inch MacBook Pro, suggesting that rumours of its demise were correct.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to some of the rumour doing the rounds, the MacBook Pro will keep its optical drive.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52345\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?attachment_id=52345\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52345\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52345\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52345\" title=\"Apple Macbook Pro presentation\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Apple-Macbook-Pro-presentation.jpg\" alt=\"Apple Macbook Pro presentation\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-52345\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Apple Macbook Pro presentation<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 id=\"mbpretina\">MacBook Pro with Retina Display<\/h3>\n<p>However, Apple went on to announce that at the same price as the high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro, you can get a notebook with a \u201cRetina display\u201d running at a resolution of 2800&#215;1800.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52355\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?attachment_id=52355\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-52355\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52355\" class=\"size-full wp-image-52355\" title=\"Macbook Pro with Retina display\" src=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Macbook-Pro.jpg\" alt=\"Macbook Pro with Retina display\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-52355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Macbook Pro with Retina display<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Billed as the \u201cnext generation MacBook Pro\u201d, the notebook is specced to support up to a 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and an SSD of up to 768GB.<\/p>\n<p>On the right of the device it has an SD card slot, HDMI and a USB 3.0 port.
