At yesterday’s E3 event which is currently being held in LA, Konami announced that development on a new Castlevania game is underway.<\/p>\n
The Castelvania franchise has been running since 1987, and the Lord of Shadows will be the series’s first full scale release venture onto current generation hardware.<\/p>\n
The game was actually announced last year, but at the time it did not carry the Castlelvania name.<\/p>\n
Originally bearing the title “Lord of Shadows” the game was described as a “dark fairytale” which focused on exploration and puzzle solving with a dramatic marketing tag reading “one man’s journey to discover the true meaning of sacrifice amidst murder and betrayal.”<\/p>\n
The game is being developed by Mercury Steam. Mercury Steam previously released Clive Barker’s Jericho which received mixed reviews but was generally considered to be a bit bland and forgettable.<\/p>\n
In an interesting development, Hideo Kojima’ studio Koijima Productions has announced that it is assisting Mercury Steam with the tile. The Metal Gear Solid creator stated “My role is to support them,”, and went on to say “I’m going to help them to give birth to this Castlevania.”<\/p>\n
Castlevania: Lord of Shadows will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3, with no mention of a PC version coming to market. It will be quite sad if this game does not come to PC, as the Castlevania franchise is one of the original cornerstones in PC gaming.
