With just days to go, and the tension mounting, we are bringing the community a number of ‘pre-MPLD Talk’s’ with some of the players that will beattending the event. The second edition sees us talking to David “Skirge” Marran, team captain of Pantheon Counter-Strike: Source.<\/p>\n
Pantheon lineup:<\/strong><\/p>\n Charndre “trAumA” Mey Team Captain<\/strong><\/p>\n Name: David Marran Could you give a description of each of your teammates and their roles within the team?<\/strong><\/p>\n Charndre “trAumA” Mey – is our captain and caller, and also our main awper. He is a very good leader with good knowledge of the game, and he is amazing with strategic decisions.<\/p>\n Tiaan “tiNyskapie” Opperman – is our team tank, good as a point man, first in rushes. Plays with any weapon but mainly AK \/ M4. He never ceases to amaze us with clutch rounds and dodgy frags.<\/p>\n David “Skirge” Marran – I am backup caller for the team. My main weapons are the AK and M4, I love being on point. Usually in front with tiNyskapie in a rush.<\/p>\n Sharon “shazzchckL” Waison – is our young asian aim in the team. Very deadly with rifles, she usually plays with trAumA to provide close range cover, but is effective in any position.<\/p>\n Giovanni “Vamooze” Bazan – is a new addition to the team. Also very good aimer with clutch play. Like shazz he frags hard and brings a lot of value to the team.<\/p>\n The first ever Pantheon MPLD Challenge in April was hailed as a major success. Being one of the organizers, what do you think is the reason for the success? Should the community expect more and more competitions like this in the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n MPLD was very organized and preparations for the event went smoothly. By setting up the servers the day before the competition we have time to test the servers and sort out all the kinks, so that when the event commences it is a smooth run. And of course the teams that compete do so in great spirit, making it a pleasure to play. We will definitely be hosting these competitions regularly. There aren’t many competitions out there and we want to show the country that there are indeed players that love the game and want to compete.<\/p>\n What are your predictions for the event?<\/strong><\/p>\n We are expecting a top 3 finish at the event, with soviet being our main competition, with teams like ec, calamity and swift to follow. I think Calamity will be underestimated, they have reformed in the hope to prove they have what it takes as they did at previous battlelans. Watch out for them they have a strong lineup and they want to win.<\/p>\n The BOTC v5 will commence right after the Pantheon MPLD Challenge, is your team prepared for this online competition, and do you believe it will be more competitive than ever?<\/strong><\/p>\n I think after MPLD with this lineup we will definitely be prepared for it. The competition is going to be strong as it always is this time of the year. Most rage teams have formed by now and are practicing together. It’s going to be a good battle.<\/p>\n Some say the South African gaming scene is in disarray and is a ship slowly sinking. Do you believe events like the Pantheon MPLD Challenge, and the rAge 2009 event reinvigorate the community, or do some more drastic interventions need to be taken?<\/p>\n I think the events we are hosting are definitely important. A community becomes stronger as there are more competitions for them. The world is in an economic crisis at the moment so sponsors are tightening up on their marketing budgets, but I am sure it will improve in the near future. What we need is more events, no matter the size, because what we all really want is the adrenaline of a LAN competition.<\/p>\n
