When Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (AOC) was released last year we were very excited. Unfortunately after 2 weeks of game time the excitement wore off and disappointment set in.<\/p>\n
What could have been an epic and fresh take on the MMO genre turned out to be a bug filled, badly optimized mess with a lackluster RPG mechanism.
Server populations swelled in the first few weeks but began deflating soon thereafter. Age of Conan lead designer Gaute Godager resigned in September 2008 citing general dissatisfaction with the game as his primary reason for leaving.<\/p>\n
At its peak AOC had over 700,000 subscribed players, but in February this year the number dipped to below 100,000 and Funcom shut down 31 of its 49 servers.
With subscriber numbers declining at an alarming rate, things are not looking good for the MMO.<\/p>\n
In what can be viewed as a last ditch effort to save the MMO, Funcom has launched a “Re-evaluation campaign”.<\/p>\n
There have been a massive number of updates and patches released for the game over the past year.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, many of the gamers that purchased the MMO at release will have no experience of the latest version, and are left with the negative impression left by the release code.<\/p>\n
In a bid to get unsubscribed players back into the game Funcom is allowing those with inactive subscriptions to re-enter the world of Hyboria for free. The offer is open until July 22. Players reactivating their accounts will not be charged and will have access to the game for two weeks.<\/p>\n
Local gamers looking at reactivating their accounts should be advised that the total game updates are sitting at over 5GB.<\/p>\n
