A new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II has revealed that Trent Reznor is doing the game’s theme song. I guess the Nine Inch Nails frontman and Activision have been – waaaaaait for it – getting a lot closer<\/em>. Oh, somebody stop me*.<\/p>\n

According to a report over on USA Today, Reznor is actually a big fan of the series.<\/p>\n

“I have always looked to that franchise as the cutting edge of what seemingly unlimited budgets and full-on not cutting any corners can do in the current day and age,” he said.<\/p>\n

This time around, that’s America and China duking it out in a new, futuristic Cold War featuring beardy villains and jetpacks.<\/p>\n

“What I learned in listening to the full story and the amount of effort that has gone into the back story and the characters and the full preparation there is a lot of reservation and angst and sense of loss and regret and anger bubbling under the surface,” he said.<\/p>\n

“So it didn\u2019t make sense to have a gung ho, patriotic feeling theme song. It has to feel weighty. There is a lot of remorse and apprehension here. So choosing to arrange it a bit more with guitars and drums and aggressively sounding, that struck a tone with them.”<\/p>\n

Reservation, angst, loss, regret, and anger? I’m sure that struck a real tone with Activision.<\/p>\n
