Someone took the idea of “sex sells” to a whole new level, when a game developer pitched a Kama Sutra game to Sony during the Playstation 2’s prominent years.<\/p>\n
Based on the ancient Hindu text of sexual positions, the Kama Sutra game was supposed to make use of the PS2’s EyeToy camera, although\u00a0Sony Computer Entertainment executive producer Pete Smith said that Sony turned it down.<\/p>\n
“This was a genuine pitch from a developer,” Smith told Eurogamer, “who pitched EyeToy Kama Sutra. Seriously, this was a genuine pitch.”<\/p>\n
“So, the guy is going to me, ‘it’s like, so there’s an outline on the screen with the EyeToy…’ I’m like, I get it, yeah.”<\/p>\n
Surprisingly, the pitch didn’t go so well and the game wasn’t seriously considered for proper development or publication.<\/p>\n
“We were talking about it back at the office. Obviously we didn’t sign it and it never ever saw the light of day. But we were going, how exactly would we QA it? You can imagine these two big hairy testers going, ‘No, you’re the bitch tonight.'”<\/p>\n
Despite the absurd presentation, Smith said he does appreciate ambitious and creative game developers who are passionate about their ideas.<\/p>\n
“What I just find strange is, sometimes you get these pitches and you think, this is just bonkers. But the developers absolutely believe in it, which is great. I’d much rather that than they come along half-hearted.”<\/p>\n
