The price cuts were particularly aggressive on uncapped accounts.

This raises the question which ISPs are offering the cheapest entry level uncapped ADSL products. To do this comparison it is fitting to look at bundled (ADSL accounts and ADSL access), and accounts-only products.

ADSL accounts only

The two largest ADSL providers in South Africa, MWEB and Telkom Internet, set the benchmark for capped and uncapped ADSL prices in the market.

MWEB’s 384kbps and 1Mbps uncapped ADSL accounts are priced at R199 per month. Telkom’s Do Uncapped 384kbps account is priced at R219 per month.

Web Africa’s uncapped 384kbps ADSL service costs R179 per month, significantly lower than the level set by Telkom and MWEB.

Afrihost cut the price of its entry-level uncapped service to R177 per month, while Axxess’ justUncapped 384kbps service costs R169 per month.

For users who mainly use their accounts after hours and on weekends, @lantic’s uncapped ADSL bolt-on service at R59 a month is an option. This service offers uncapped access from 6pm to 6am daily and all day over weekends.

There are also “surf only” uncapped ADSL accounts available from ISPs such as Openweb and Axxess for below R100 per month, but these accounts do not allow for large downloads during normal hours.

Bundled ADSL broadband products

ADSL users can get far better value for money when they purchase bundled ADSL products from their ISPs. From August 2012, Telkom will charge R165 per month for its entry level ADSL access, but many ISPs are willing to sell ADSL access at cost to remain competitive.

MWEB and Web Africa currently charge R329 per month for a bundled uncapped ADSL account and 384kbps ADSL access, lower than Telkom’s R371 for the same service.

Afrihost is cheaper, at R297 for a bundled 384kbps uncapped ADSL service, while Imaginet charges R289 for this service.

Cybersmart, however, is by far the cheapest. The company charges R199 per month for an uncapped ADSL account and for 384kbps ADSL access. This effectively means that Cybersmart charges less than R50 per month for an entry level ADSL account.

Related articles

R59 uncapped ADSL bolt-on special

Uncapped business ADSL pricing comparison

Afrihost 10Mbps uncapped ADSL Home account review

SA’s top ADSL ISP revealed

Uncapped ADSL bundle pricing comparison

Uncapped ADSL prices continue to plummet, and we explore the cheapest uncapped ADSL services in the market

[20
2289,3662,1567,21,217,287,295
post-41739","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-features","tag-afrihost","tag-axxess","tag-cybersmart","tag-headline","tag-mweb","tag-telkom","tag-web-africa
["GET
