{"id":4184,"date":"2009-07-27T13:54:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-27T11:54:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-29T22:00:00","slug":"unreal-tournament-gets-benched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/4184-unreal-tournament-gets-benched","title":{"rendered":"Unreal Tournament gets benched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unreal Tournament 3 may be the last Unreal Tournament (UT) title we see for the next few years according to Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney.<\/p>\n<p>The first Unreal Tournament was released in 1999 and was followed periodically by almsot annual Unreal Tournament releases such as UT2, UT 2004 and most recently Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007 to name but a few.<\/p>\n<p>Sweeney announced that the studio would not be releasing any more UT games for the next &lsquo;several years&rsquo;.<\/p>\n<p>Sweeny told<a href=\"http:\/\/news.bigdownload.com\/2009\/07\/23\/tim-sweeney-no-new-unreal-tournament-game-for-several-years\/\" target=\"_self\"> BigDownload<\/a> that &#8220;Unreal Tournament is certainly a major long-term priority, but we&#8217;re planning not to release a major retail game in the series for several years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say &#8220;We have that effort somewhat on hold while we work on a few other initiatives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sometimes it&#8217;s okay to let people miss a property,&#8221; said Sweeney, giving Fallout 3 as an example of a title which enjoyed a strong comeback after 10 years of silence.<\/p>\n<p>Unreal Tournament 3 was released in 2007 and received a relatively lukewarm reception.
