Dead Space has joined a quickly growing trend that has video games being made into movies. It’s hardly a new thing, with the likes of Street Fighter making it to the big screen as early as 1994, not to mention the countless other attempts at capturing the magic of interactive entertainment on the silver screen.<\/p>\n
But recently there appears to be an upsurge in the number of games earmarked for the big screen. Bioshock and World of Warcraft immediately spring to mind, joined by the more recent news that Asteroids will also be made into a movie. Other notable titles that Hollywood has snapped up include The Sims, Mass Effect and Army of Two, all three also happen to be EA titles.<\/p>\n
It has to be said that Dead Space is great source material for a movie. The eerie atmosphere, intense and gory horror and compelling plot should convert well into celluloid format.<\/p>\n
EA is on board to produce the film along with Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, the same team that brought us Alien vs. Predator and iRobot. Bowen and Godfrey are also producing Gears of War for the big screen.<\/p>\n
According to Variety, D.J Caruso will be directing the Sci-fi horror. Once EA signs off on a creative direction, they will begin shopping the IP around to different studios.<\/p>\n
Dead Space was released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 late last year and ended up being one of the year’s most well received titles. The story takes place in the 26th century with Dead Space players going up against a range of hideously mutated aliens onboard the USG Ishimaru.<\/p>\n
It remains to be seen which of the upcoming crop of game-to-movie adaptations will be any good. With its cinematic storyline, atmosphere and character development, Dead Space stands a good chance of transferring well to big screen.<\/p>\n
