Apple has filed a patent for a DualShock-style video game controller, suggesting the Cupertino megacorporation is taking its core gaming market a bit more seriously. Apple’s… core… gaming market. Man, there’s a big opportunity for some great branding here.<\/p>\n

Anyway, the company’s patent<\/a> for a “SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SIMPLIFIED CONTROL OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES” shows input and connectivity diagrams between a range of Apple devices, including iPhones, iPods, and Apple TVs, including a diagram of the controller labelled “a schematic of a video game controller for the standalone media player of FIG. 4 or a video game system”. The device in “FIG.4” is the Apple TV media player.<\/p>\n

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it… a Sony DualShock controller?<\/p><\/div>\n

The controller is also shown to connect to an iPhone and iPad Touch.<\/p>\n

According to Game Revolution, the patent was filed back in March already, but was only published to the public yesterday. Whether or not the controller is simply a concept or something that might actually go into production remains a matter of speculation for now, but in the meantime, Apple’s designers should probably think about making it look less like Sony’s controller. But, like, a lot<\/em> less.<\/p>\n
